This has been waiting in the wings for a long time. So long in fact that I feared it would never see the light of day, destined only to stay as big dreams forever trapped within the pages of my journals.
But one of my big goals for 2024 was to stop planning (and over-planning) and start doing. So here we are.
You might already know me from my other publication
where I talk about knitting, life and everything else in between.I sometimes touch on my love of journaling there and my long-standing interest in tarot but I felt that I needed a place where I could really expand. If journaling has taught me anything it’s that you need space in which to explore, to branch off and see where it takes you, to grab a pen and frankly, just go for it.
And so in that vein Page and Ink was born.
Why combine tarot and journaling?
For me they are natural companions - and I always have a notebook and a tarot deck in my bag.
I love using tarot as a tool for self-reflection and although I do sometimes read for others I use it daily for myself and usually in conjunction with my journal. Sometimes I’ll draw a single card and use that as a jumping off point for free writing in my journal. Sometimes I’ll feel in need of a more structured approach and I’ll ask a more focused question of the cards. Either way, tarot journaling has become an important part of my life.
Whilst it’s fabulous to have someone read the cards for you and I’d always recommend getting a reading or two done whenever you find yourself in need of guidance, I love how journaling and self-reflection really helps to deepen my connection to the cards and to help me develop my own relationship with them.
There’s something in the act of putting pen to paper that allows your intuition to really flow, to connect with the deeper meanings of the cards and more importantly to put it into the context of your everyday life.
If you’d like to experiment a little with tarot journaling - and I really hope you will - please consider subscribing to Page and Ink Tarot and maybe sharing it with your friends. All content is currently free, although I will be considering adding paid options in the future.
To get you started on your tarot journaling adventure I have put together a simple PDF with 5 of my favourite prompts, the ones I turn to again and again when I sit down with my journal and my deck. Just tap the image below and I’ll email them straight to you.
Until next time…
I've read Tarot now since I was 15, so 35 years now. Like you I use for reflection and mindfulness. Only occasionally reading for others. I've never considered using with a journal so this article was like a light bulb moment for me and one I look forward to experimenting with.
Woo! So excited to be here! Tarot and journaling are cornerstones in my life. We have so much in common Louise!
