It seems very appropriate that I drew the Queen of Wands at the weekend. I felt the pull to go back to using my first ever Tarot deck for this weeks cards. Bought at the hallowed Afflecks Palace (Manchester, UK) in the early 1990s - fond memories of my student days.
These traditional Rider-Waite-Smith cards have been with me through a lot and even though I largely ignored them for many years, they have always been there when I have turned to them.
[I haven’t forgotten about the weekly cards I spoke about last week by the way, it’s just that events overtook me somewhat, in the form of a small, black furry kitten]
I drew the Queen of Wands with it’s cheeky, but wise looking small black cat on Saturday. And the same day the cat shelter phoned to say they had a young cat just arrived who might well suit our needs. We popped over to meet her and brought her home yesterday.
Ebby - our older cat is slightly bemused right now so we are letting them both settle but we hope that in time they will be good company for each other.
I love that somehow we have now acquired two all-black cats through no planning on our part. The universe has obviously decided that we are meant to be home to two little ‘house panthers’.
I’m always amazed though that cat shelters consistently report black cats as being slower to rehome. To the extent that this particular shelter has a tick box on their online form. They ask you whether you would be willing to adopt a black cat, alongside another box about adopting a cat with medical needs. As if the creature’s colour had any bearing on whether you could give it a loving home or not.
Truly baffling.
Anyway, in true Queen of Wands style I am writing this with a small black cat if not quite at my feet (she’s under my sofa). In lieu of the staff and sunflower I have a mug of ginger tea and my fountain pen lies at the side of me ready for some journaling.
I think the Queen depicted here would approve.

I drew The Magician for my daily card today and part way through my journaling it hit me.
Enough already
The King of Swords (called The Elder here in the Spacious Tarot deck) takes absolutely no prisoners - Swords are sharp and have the knack of cutting through the dead wood to the heart beneath. Whether you want them to or not.

I have two black cats and I think it's the perfect cat aggregate to have. Congratulations!
Luna looks a sweetie (as Ebby does too, don't want to leave her out). When we were interviewed by the dog rescue charity we eventually brought Bailey home from we were asked if we had a colour preference – no! Why would you?
